The original text of Edgar Allan Poe's haunting poem, The RavenWith Gustave Doré's powerful illustrations, beautifully recreated in colour by Michael Richard HintonWith a new, specially written Introduction by Ebenezer DuLally UvneyLarge format (8.25x11 in)The Raven is a narrative poem by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. It is noted for its musicality, stylised language, and supernatural atmosphere, making use of folk, mythological, religious and classical references. It tells of a distraught lover who laments the loss of his love, Lenore, and is paid a mysterious visit by a talking raven. The raven seems to antagonise the protagonist with its constant repetition of the word “Nevermore”.The Raven was first published in January 1845. Its publication made Poe popular in his lifetime, although it did not bring him much financial success. It is nevertheless one of the most famous poems ever written, and has been reprinted, illustrated and parodied many timesIn this orrydian edition the poem is illustrated with Gustave Doré‘s haunting wood engravings, originally created in black and white but here expertly and sympathetically recreated in colour by Michael Richard Hinton. The work is enhanced with a new Introduction by Ebenezer DuLally Uvney.Other works with illustrations by Doré, recreated in full colour by Michael Richard Hinton, published by orrydian and available on Amazon, include:The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, ISBN 979- 8392017218Blue Beard and other fairy tales, by Michael Richard Hinton, ISBN 979-8877429444Dante’s Divine Comedy: Inferno, ISBN 979-8389896611Dante’s Divine Comedy: Purgatorio, ISBN 979-8390498316Dante’s Divine Comedy: Paradiso, ISBN 979-8390501207Paradise Lost, by John Milton, ISBN 979-8392095025Gustave Doré’s Bible: The Old Testament, ISBN 979-8397191159Gustave Doré’s Bible: The New Testament, ISBN 979-8394485282Gustave Doré’s Illustrations in Colour, ISBN 979-8883085450Idylls of the King, by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, ISBN 979-8399640716Gustave Doré’s Don Quixote, Volume 1, by Miguel de Cervantes.
